Who?

Locally Sourced

Morgan County Media Acquisition Initiative is an organization that began to serve the interest in local reporting, advertising, and literacy throughout Morgan County, Indiana. MCMAI understands how difficult it is to operate a newspaper in today's fast-paced online world. Keeping the news local is the number one goal of the initiative. We truly believe, the best news you'll hear all day is LOCAL NEWS!

Why?

Community

The problem is, the newspaper industry is in crisis. As the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged our world, journalists across the country have been hit hard with demand and content requests are at an all time high, the industry was reduced to bare bones pre-pandemic and left to struggle under an unsustainable business model.

What?

Newspaper Acquisitions

From cities as large as Cleveland, OH to local towns like Danville, IN, communities are coming together to buy-out their papers and return the local news to local ownership. Morgan County Media Acquisition Initiative believes now is the time to act ourselves and to join these communities in helping re-invent the newspaper business model at a time when demand for fresh, local, and positive content is at a sustainable high.

How?

Collaboration

Like many communities before us, our plan is to work with Gannett Co., Inc., the largest newspaper publisher in the U.S. and the current owner of the Mooresville Decatur Times and the Reporter Times on a locally led acquisition of the newspapers. This acquisition would seek to continue the publications, enhance the local presence, maintain staffing, increase subscribers, and REPORT THE LOCAL NEWS!
